Dear Professor Rodwell,
My name is Mark Kim, and I am a sophomore computer science major. I aspire to be a software engineer for one of the big tech corporations. Though, money seems to be the driving factor for this, and it is true, the pay would be nice, however, working at one of these companies would be an experience of a lifetime. Massive tech corporations like Apple, Facebook, Google, Amazon have completely changed everyone’s lives. In 20 years, we have switched from analog, landlines, and flip phones to auto driving cars, smart houses, and social networks that can connect people from the other side of the world. It is amazing the amount of change that has taken place in the
21st century, by far mankind’s best century for innovation. All these feats can be traced back to engineering and the brilliant theorists behind it. After all of these innovations made in the technology field, there is still more to come with the onset of virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and advanced robotics. I would love to be a part of this. Google and their AI division, Facebook or Meta and their advancements in the field of Virtual Reality continue to intrigue me. In the future, I would love to contribute to artificial intelligence to make life easier for everyone in the world. I imagine working for a company like OpenAI, who has already made strides in the field of artificial intelligence, and hope to aid in the creation of an AI that can help healthcare workers or assist in everyday tasks for the general population. For my short-term goals, I would love to get a positive experience from college and internships throughout the summers to also enhance my skills in software engineering all in an effort to accomplish the goals I have set for myself in the field of software engineering.
Sincerely,
Mark Kim
